Final Predictions:

September 30, 2006

From taking a global look at the delegates, their media coverage, fast tracks and U decide videos here are my predictions for Miss World 2006. I have a special emphasis on the Caribbean. Keep in mind that Miss World is a highly unpredictable pageant and anything is possible!

Queen of the Caribbean:            Puerto Rico

1st- Miss Puerto Rico

Miss Puerto Rico probably has the biggest fan base of all the Caribbean girls in the competition. Thebyam also has managed to place highly in two fast track events.  She is a professional model who knows how to carry herself well.  She is also a nurse, which puts her in hot contention for the beauty with a purpose title also. Her U decide video was very good too.   She is definitely mature enough to handle the things a Miss World must. Add the fact that Thebyam has been preparing for a whole year and you can see why this young lady is the top contender of the Queen of the Caribbean title.

2nd -Miss Jamaica

Miss Jamaica also has a strong fan base. She has impeccable interview skills and handles herself with grace and charm. She is the obvious choice to me for the judges’ choice from the Caribbean. Sara definitely could handle the responsibilities that come with being a Miss World. She balances intellect and beauty and would be a great role model. Her U decide video was beyond perfection and can win over any doubters. My only regret is that she did not shine from earlier in the competition and this may be to her detriment

3rd- Miss Martinique

This young lady is what I call a true beauty queen; she easily outclasses the whole region with her stellar beauty and vigour. For this reason she has many admirers across the world that will vote for her! Still she may not have the voting power despite being worthy due to her country size and newness to pageantry. She is very ambitious as she wants to land a cosmetic contract (no problems there!)  and wants to work with her country’s police force in a scientific capacity. Her U decide video has replay value (LOL) She would be an amazing addition to the Miss World Organisation however she does not have the level of sophistication that comes with age that Miss Puerto Rico and Miss Jamaica have being adults! Nevertheless, she makes up for it with innocent charm. Stephanie has what it takes to be a star.

 4th – Miss Bahamas

Miss Bahamas is beautiful, humble and polished. She is intelligent and a joy to communicate with. She also cracked the fitness fast track and has gotten quite a lot of attention online She is the best Miss Bahamas in recent times. Bahamas does not have a strong voting base and because of the unfortunate incident with the U decide video I feel her best chance to advance will be with the judges’ interview.

5th-Miss Barbados

Miss Barbados has made the best use of the media out of all the Caribbean girls she has managed to place in two fast track events and get publicity out of the designers gown competition also. This has brought recognition to the island. People definitely will be looking for Barbados’ delegate next year.  Barbados does not have a strong voting base and therefore the best chance of them cracking the top sixteen has already passed. Latoya is also one of the youngest delegates in the competition and it does show.   Nevertheless, she has a lot of personality and life to her and should feel proud of her accomplishments at Miss World!

 6th – Miss Dominican Republic

Miss Dominican Republic has a massive fan base also. Dominicans actively support their girls no matter what pageant they participate in. This one will be not different. Paola has already picked up some fans in Asia too which is always to you advantage. Many find her to be quite pretty so her strongest bet to get through on is voting by the public.

Continetal Queens

Queen of the Africa :                        Angola

She is simply amazing.  Very beautiful very charming she levels the competition.

Queen of the Americas:              Venezuela

Probably the winner of this competition Federica has every thing needed to be a Miss World. She even reminds me of Wilneila Forsyth a former Miss World I am sure Osmel will agree that Miss Venezuela is ready for another crown!

Queen of Asia:               India

Probably the only person who can steal the crown away from Venezuela. She is beautiful intelligent and mysterious with the hopes of millions of Indians who share her dream behind her.

Queen of Northern Europe:             Czech Republic

Sexy, Charming, graceful. If this girl were in Trumps pageant, she would be guaranteed a slot in the finals of Miss Universe instantly.  She is the favourite of many across the world.

Queen of Southern Europe:            Lebanon

She is the darling of the pageant boards and a constant favourite from the beginning of her reign.

U-decide Caribbean Review and Links to videos

September 24, 2006
Miss Jamaica's Vote for me videoPerfection!!!!! Jamaica-

This Jamaican princess showed a lot of class, intelligence, warmth and humility all at the same time.  She blew away everybody with her charm and charisma. If she keeps this up, she will be guaranteed a slot in the finals

 Martinique-

Warm and graceful are the words that come to mind when I watch this vote- for- me. I would definitely vote for you! The 2nd best in the Caribbean.

ExcellentTrinidad and Tobago-

Puerto Rico-

Both these interviews had no obvious flaws and were very good. Nevertheless, they lack the vibrancy that the first two had and so I rank them a joint third place.

 Very Good

 Cayman Islands -

 Curacao-

Both these segments were appealing and had a lot of charm. These girls, although not favourites, have succeeded in producing a good vote-for-me segment.

Good

Barbados-

This vote-for-me video was good. Barbados had good speech and a positive personality.  However, her interview had some rough edges as she gave off an “urban” vibe some of the time that is not appropriate.

 Fair

 Dominican Republic -

Dominican Republic spoke way too fast and lacked the warmth needed to really” sell” herself to the public. Nevertheless, she is beautiful and you can bet Dominicans will be supporting this girl.

 Guadeloupe-

This segment was not bad considering it was done in English her second language. However, her lack of confidence came through and did not make it a memorable piece.

Aruba-

Very cute and adorable. I like her but Aruba seems unsure of herself and the camera picks that up for the world to see.

Below the mark

Bahamas-

Very disappointing performance from a beautiful front-runner in the Caribbean. Bahamas said intelligent things but she did not keep eye contact with the camera and was a little “over the top” with her antics.

Paul C’s thoughts regarding Miss World 2006

September 16, 2006

Unnur BirnaI think Ms World is definitely heading in the right direction, but a number of
things concern me about the ethics of the pageant.

1. Why are the rules changing from year to year, it makes you wonder.

2. The mini events are fun, but since they seem to have no bearing on the final
results besides give some girls added publicity, why bother to fasttrack the winner?
Why not just award a sectional prize?

3. I still feel public voting is a waste of time, how can public choose a girl, solely based on photos, or a couple seconds video clip in U-Decide? Most of us won’t see the girls in person, nor meet them. I feel this is the weakest area of MW pageant & still need to be refined. Its still good that they will now choose only one from public vote (from each continent) & one from judges vote. This public voting excercise & the added U Decide Video must cost MW a fortune, I wouldve kept the process simpler & force each person voting to choose not just one girl (which is often their home country girl), but also choose one, from each of the continents- 6 in total.

4. The “Beauty with Purpose” mini contest should not be restricted to charity only, but should include overall purpose of the delegates. This could include achievements, scholastic & otherwise, & general direction of the girls. Purpose is not only about charity, but also about how we better ourselves to make better
citizens & contribute greater to our societies.

5. Still no one knows, how much weight MW Org will add to the final results, they sit on judging panel. Its about time the judging process is transparent, otherwise countries may just start loosing interest & droppping out of this remarkable event which would be a shame.

Mito’s views on Miss World Contestants so far

September 15, 2006

Caribbean

Martinique, by far is the most beautiful contestant in the Caribbean. It will be shocking if such a stellar beauty is left out of the finals. Miss Puerto Rico’s modelling skills and “Julia Roberts looks” should get her into the finals easily this year. Puerto Ricans should be voting for this girl

Miss Bahamas is very polished and sophisticated it would be no surprise to see her in the finals. Dominican Republic is reminiscent of last years Miss Mexico who placed second in this competition last year. It would not surprise us if she picks up a few fans on this account.

Africa

Miss South Africa is the “Diva” in this region.  Known as very well dressed and stylish, she would be an easy choice for this region. Angola is simply divine looking and is the most highly anticipated African delegate because of the controversy surrounding her eligibility to participate in the Miss Universe pageant this year. She also cracked top five in beach beauty so we expect much from this delegate.  Ethiopia has a classic beauty that is hard to deny and if she puts her communication skills to use should be in the running to be a finalist. Tanzania has a very innocent quality that makes her very attractive and a frontrunner in the Africa region.

Americas

Ecuador is probably the most popular contestant on pageant boards and could take the crown quite easily with her “Karolina Kurkova” face Bolivia is heavenly. She is a great catwalk model and she simply adorable to look at. Venezuela has amazing presence and a flawless body. Taking into consideration that Venezuela is very hungry for another major international crown, I would say she is fierce competition. Mexico looks like Elizabeth Hurley (international model and actress) hopefully she can use this to her advantage.

Southern Europe

Turkey is very sexy and caught my eye from the first time that I saw her. Bulgaria is very “supermodel” looking and I would love to see her advance. Israel is beautiful and I love her “Kylie Minogue” smile. Lebanon is a hot favourite currently and many individuals including us want to see her do very well.

Northern Europe

Miss Ukraine is the standout in this group. We have loved her from day one!  Miss Czech Republic is simply stunning from head to toe.  Miss Scotland is one of my surprise favourites she reminds me of Xena warrior princess and Catherine Zeta Jones all rolled into one!

Estonia has a very different look. I love the ultra blonde look on her. Sweden and Poland are also creeping closer to my favourites list.

Asia

India is beautiful, well trained and has an hourglass figure.  We expect her to excel in this region.  Philippines is a hot contender for the crown this year and after last years result, I think it is time Philippines surfaces to the top of the pack. Japan is super edgy and amazing she is one of the strongest Japanese delegates to Miss World in recent years you can’t help but notice her. Singapore is absolutely gorgeous.  I love her looks and hope to see her more of her.
